The Bradford Unversity Society of Operettas and Musicals (BUSOM) meet twice a week at 7pm on Tuesdays in the Activities Room and Thursdays in the Escape Bar, both of which are located in Student Central. We perform concerts of songs from the shows at both Christmas and the end of the academic year, with a fully staged show March. We also present a “Scratch”, or semi-staged show each year in November to induct new members into the society and a 24-Hour Show, usually in October. These productions provide ample opportunities for members to try their hand at all elements of theatre: directing, acting, tech, costume – the list goes on!
NEW FOR 2014-2015: BUSOM will be collaborating with The New Bradford Playhouse to recruit people to help in the handling of the technical side of theatre productions, i.e. lighting, set-building, stage-hands. This group will be run under the name Technicians in Theatre Services (otherwise to be known as “TITS”), and will run on Tuesday evenings at The New Bradford Playhouse, who already hold regular tech skills workshops at this time. The first meeting of this group will be held alongside BUSOM’s first meeting of the year on Tuesday, 23rd September 2014 at 7pm in the Activities Room in Student Central at the university, and future social events of the group will also be held alongside BUSOM.

When not rehearsing for our own shows, the society often takes trips to see productions at Local Theatres.
With its combination of friendly meetings, fantastic performances and an emphasis on the social side of the society, it’s little surprise that many members have found BUSOM to be at the heart of their university experience.
Membership is £6 for Students and £10 for Non-Students
